Resurrecting the King Eddy
By David Finch, Calgary Herald May 23, 2010
Calgary's oldest bum is getting help. Derelict, long in the tooth, forgotten by society, and one of the oldest residents of downtown Calgary, the King Edward Hotel is about to be reborn. "The new National Music Centre at the King Eddy will be a treasure for Calgarians, Albertans, Canadians and beyond" the Cantos-King Eddy website ( http://cantos.ca/kingeddy/ ) proudly announces...

National Music Centre Project Update June 2010
As the architects finish up with schematic design, the marketing team is getting ready to unleash the new National Music Centre (NMC) brand. After extensive stakeholder consultation, Cantos and its branding consultant, Identica, have come up with a brand and visual language we feel capture the heart and soul of music and of the National Music Centre.
Cantos and NMC fans can sneak a peak at the new look during the Stampede this year at the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame July 9-20, 2010.
Keep your eyes open in future issues of our Music Matters monthly newsletter for the new brand’s debut! |

Final design of the King Eddy Hotel / National Music Centre to be unveiled June 22 at a public event. See the link for details (not to be confused with the King Edward School Arts Incubator project in South Calgary - see elsewhere in the forum. So much coolness associated with King Edward these days...)

Lots of news on the final design of the King Eddy hotel - National Music Centre project. Fundraising continues, and there is a likelihood that necessary rehabilitation of the old King Eddy will be the first phase of activity, timing TBD. Stay tuned.

Thanks for the info. Any more recent updates? The progression of these hotels reminds me of the The Strand Hotel NYC and the Hotel 373 Fifth in New York. It also brings to mind the Mark Hotel NYC and the Ritz Carlton NYC. I am excited to see how the rest of this hotel project turns out.
Thanks in advance,
-Jim
