Rouge in the Cross house - world's top 100 restaurants list

Rouge Restaurant, in the historic A.E. Cross House in Inglewood, is one of the world's top 100 restaurants (at no. 60) according to the prestigious "S Pellegrino World’s 100 Best Restaurants for 2010". While A.E. Cross's home provides the atmosphere for the successful Rouge, the business he founded, the Calgary Brewing and Malting Co., is endangered by a demolition application on the oldest parts of the site (applied for May 15 2009, stayed by provincial order) and apparent neglect of at least some of the buildings. Incidentally, the A.E. Cross house is owned by the City of Calgary.

A few days ago, the dining landscape changed in Calgary. One of our finest restaurants -- Rouge -- was named 60th best in the world for 2010.

The City is investigating the possibility of selling heritage buildings like the Cross house to private buyers (after first putting legal protection on them). Here is a link to that story:
