Saturday, June 7th, 2008

Heritage Property Corporation invites all Calgarians to celebrate the
Grand Opening of the historic Lougheed Building.

Join us for an afternoon of family-friendly entertainment & activities:

• Meet Dion Phaneuf of the Calgary Flames (3pm – 5pm)
• Guided tours of the Lougheed Building
• Formal Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 2pm
• 1912 Carnival Foods, Games & Antique Cars on Display
• Book Signing by Calgary’s Grand Story author, Donald B. Smith
• Heritage Corner featuring expert speakers on various heritage topics

Please bring a monetary or non-perishable food donation for the Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank.

The Grand Opening of the Lougheed Building will include a Heritage Corner station with presentations from:

Donald B. Smith, professor of history at the University of Calgary will be discussing the Lougheed Building's tenants throughout history. Professor Smith is the author of "Calgary's Grand Story". Copies of the book will be available for purchase and Professor Smith will be on hand to sign them.

Darryl Cariou is an award-winning heritage planner with the City of Calgary will be discussing the Lougheed Building and the St. Mary's Girls School as two important watersheds.

Harry Sanders, historian and reference archivist at the Glenbow Museum will be discussing Senator Lougheed's Calgary buildings. Copies of Mr. Sander's book, "Historic Walks of Calgary", will be available for purchase following his presentation. Mr. Sanders can be heard on CBC Radio on Thursdays at 5:45pm as he stumps Calgarians with his weekly history quiz.

Lorne Simpson of Simpson Roberts Architecture & Pat Ledarney of Historic Preservation Services will be demonstrating various restoration techniques. Lorne has received numerous awards including thirteen City of Calgary Heritage Awards. Pat has been instrumental in the preservation and restoration efforts in many historic Calgary sites including the Lougheed Building.
