Latest updates April 30, 2010 - at the bottom of the thread
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Tigerstedt block, 908 A Centre street north, former home of Tigerstedt Photo Studios who happen to be responsible for a large number of the photos in the Glenbow Museum archives, is up for redevelopment. In the past month signs have gone up stating Land For Sale - Redevelopment Site.
The block dates from the early 1930s, a rarity in this city, and sports a great example of an Art Deco (non-functioning) neon sign.
It's also former home to Jensen Radio and Television, which served Calgarians for 40+ years. The building's retail bays have only been 1/3-1/2 occupied for the past couple of years, and is currently only occupied by a convenience store and a corner pub. It also shares the block with a small turn of the century style 2 bay commercial structure, and a early to mid century two story wood frame commercial building. It's unknown of the 2 adjacent properties are also at risk.
The building is not on the city inventory.

Visited the "Studio Pub" for some rockabilly, and took some pics of the inside of what was originally the Tigerstedt Studios, as well was given a tour of the basement where the original darkrooms are still intact, however sadly the lights weren't working too well down there:

Word is now that the owners of the building have allowed the Studio Cafe/Pub to expand into the adjacent retail bay, but only for 1 yr as the building is to be demolished at that point.

Word is now that a Land Use amendment application has come in to "rezone" the parcel, in anticipation of demolition and redevelopment.

This is confirmed.
There has been an application to change the land use of this parcel (in red) to C-COR1 (Corridor Commercial) of unknown maximum height/density.

There are new businesses going into the Tigerstedt block. A reprieve for the building it seems...
