Last update January 2009 - go to the bottom for the latest

----------------------------------------------------------------------

There is news of two historic 'Cushing' buildings in the Beltline, formerly featured buildings on the website. Go here for more of the history: http://www.calgaryheritage.org/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=14

The George Cushing residence in Victoria Crossing (below left) was most recently the home of Voodoo computers ( see this April 2007 FFWD story on Voodoo and its relationship to the building http://www.ffwdweekly.com/Issues/2007/0426/cover.htm ). In June a new tenant moved in, www.foresters.biz.

The house and the now-empty lot to the north is being marketed as a "Historic Building and Development Site" - the concept drawing on the sales material shows the house preserved. Kudos to the owner and the realtors for making heritage preservation part of the selling feature.

NEW Arrow There is presently a development application for the lot and building. See the post below.

Updated! Here is a link to a pdf of the sales information:

New! Here is a link to a pdf of the lease information, including interior images of the Cushing House:

------------------------------------------------

The Cushing lumber company building on 10th Avenue SW recently got a facelift and is now the home of the Cafe 80/20 (summer 2007) as well as Personal Best Seminars, which has owned the building and kept it in great shape since 1992. (below right - new photos soon1)

There is a development application in for the site of the historic Cushing house in Victoria Crossing. See above ^^for information about a proposal for the site that may or may not match this application. Let's hope it does and that the house is safe! More information as it becomes available...

April 29, 2007: There is an article in FFWD this week about the house's relationship to Voodoo Computers. See the link in the post above ^.

The historic Cushing house is now home to a fashion store. This is a great opportunity to look inside the historic house that has been an office for so long. CHI is particularly interested in this house as it was researched by the Beltline Communities and CHI, and presented by CHI to be added to the City's heritage inventory.

Info from the Jan 2009 newsletter of the Victoria Crossing BRZ. www.vcrossing.com
