It was a hundred years ago on April 9, 1912 that English town planner and landscape architect spoke to a meeting of the Canadian Club in Calgary during a cross-Canada tour. After speaking here a second time, he was commissioned to do a plan for the booming young City. Here is an account of the talk, provided courtesy of Harry Sanders - thanks Harry! http://www.ourfutureourpast.ca/newspapr/np_page2.asp?code=n2qp0809.jpg
Mawson produced a spectacular Beaux Arts / City Beautiful plan for Calgary in 1913. But by then the economy was collapsing, not to fully recover for many decades, and the plan was unrealized. More about Mawson and his plan for Calgary here: http://caa.ucalgary.ca/mawsonreportfull
