The islands that dot our Bow River have all kinds of tales for you to discover. Many of our islands were outside the original city limits and their location determined their uses...

Donna Zwicker is a Calgary historian and natural storyteller. Donna will reveal how Calgary’s local islands fared in a sea of change. Why were there so many uses for Williams Island, also known as Archery Island and Bird Island to name a few (haven't heard of this island? some to the roundtable and find out more).

Brain Vivian’s passion is archeology and he is currently President of the Calgary Centre, Archeology Society of Alberta. For over 30 years Brian has been digging up all kinds of fascinating facts and discovering little known stories about our surroundings. “The Islands of the Saints” is Brian’s topic. He will share his knowledge and appreciation of Saint George's and Saint Patrick's islands.

John Gilpin is our third presenter. An historian, John has a particular interest in the history of water in the west. He has written several books with his latest called “The Elbow: A River in the life of the City.” Ever wonder about the history of Prince’s Island Park. That’s John’s topic. He will share the full history and all its stories of our most beloved parks.
