Oldest buildings

Postby Chris E » Thu Nov 28, 2013 1:51 am

I thought it would be interesting to figure out the oldest buildings in each community, particularly as you get out of the innercity. Maybe oldest house, commercial, place of worship, etc.

Highland Park

Could be this.. thing:

4025 3RD ST NW

My Property says 1969, but it looks like a 60's house fused to a much older one in these views, particularly due to the roof shape of the small portion

Tuxedo

NORTH GLENMORE PARK

Old farmhouses remain in the area

Example
(1924) (NOTE: It looks like the "1" should actually be beside the light roofed house of the same shape slightly to the north west.)

Mostly just checking out these 1924 air photos:

http://contentdm.ucalgary.ca/collection ... 7_1924.kml

Looking for buildings which then were at or sometimes far beyond the edge of town, and then looking in the general area on google maps to see if they still exist, typically studying the roof shapes, house sizes on google maps to see if any stand out as being significantly different than the surrounding homes.

Then checking My Property:

http://www.calgary.ca/_layouts/cocis/ca ... &sideBar=3

To confirm year of construction. I started looking for oldest buildings but then became more interested in country/farm houses which ended up being built around as the city expanded. Hoping to get a listing of city properties so that much of this could simply be done by querying the database :)

New member here.

Just bought a 1908 home in renfrew up on top of the escarpment. This thing needs work......Looking at my options.

I love the fact that my home is a little piece of history.....but man is it in bad shape.

I seriously need some advice!

Thanks

1814 30 Avenue SW was built in 1910. On the 1924 aerial maps it is there.
The 3 heritage houses that are facing King Edward School on 17 Street SW are there too.
