Tell Us Your Stories!
Heritage Reception Invitation

You are invited to a reception on Wednesday, October 19th from
7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Ant Hill Building (148 – 10th Street NW).

We want to hear your stories about what Hillhurst & Sunnyside were like. You might want to tell us about the topics below or about others we might have missed:

• The effect of the 1980s CTrain corridor implementation on the community, homes, and individuals.
• The impact of the Bow River flooding on Sunnyside residents (prior to the building of the Bearspaw Dam in the 1950s).
• The architecture – homes and businesses – that have we lost and what you would like to save.
• The kind of community spirit have we shown through the years – protests, rallies, opposition and collaboration with The City on various initiatives.
• The people who lived and worked in Hillhurst and Sunnyside in the 1900s. Where did they shop, find entertainment and partake in recreation. (For example - local grocery stores, meat markets, shoe makers, bakeries, parks, clubs, and so on.)
• The effect of various forms of transportation on our community – Municipal Street Cars, automobiles, buses, the CTrain, bicycles, and walking.

Please share your stories with us and feel free to bring photographs and other mementoes that enhance these and other stories. We will have refreshments and snacks available to keep you energized!

And then we will discuss, explore and get your thoughts on various aspects of heritage commemoration in the Hillhurst and Sunnyside communities, and to think about how we can incorporate our rich architectural, cultural, and geographic heritage into the Bow to Bluff* design project.

*Bow to Bluff is a community’s volunteer initiative to revitalize the public spaces – parks, sidewalks, public buildings – along the CTrain corridor from Memorial Drive and the Bow River to the McHugh Bluff. For more information, please go to http://bowtobluff.org/.

Please RSVP to info@bowtobluff.org or call 403.403.7860

We hope to see you there! (please feel free to forward to other community residents).
