Planned Development for Sacred Heart Church

As of May 25, 2009, the Sunalta Community Association website reports that "a large addition is in the planning process for the church known as the Narthex. This area is planned as a gathering area before and after services. The development approval process is underway with the city and construction is hoped to start this summer."

It looks like the addition would be on the south side. Sacred Heart church was built in 1930, replacing an earlier church immediately to the west. The steeple was added in the 1950s.

Building a foundation for the next 100 years

Now, the Catholic Church has embarked on an ambitious plan to put down the foundation for another 100 years of serving parishioners and the community... Sacred Heart will celebrate its 100th anniversary June 26. The first mass held in the original two-storey building was on June 26, 1910. The wooden structure was replaced 20 years later during the Depression and opened during Christmas 1930...

More about Sacred Heart church. The new narthex is under construction now, and a columbarium is part of the addition - see the article. Also news of 100th anniverary celebrations in June 2011 (the current, second church dates from 1930).
