Go for a Jane's Walk on May 1 and 2. There is lots of heritage content in many of the walks - browse the complete list at: http://janeswalk.net/cities/category/calgary/

Jane's Walks are a series of free, volunteer-led walking tours of neighbourhoods in the spirit of urban activist and writer Jane Jacobs. This year there are over 20 walks happening in Calgary, conducted by community groups and individuals. Everyone is welcome

CHI is involved in the following walks:
(NOTE: sometimes the link fails on the first try - if that happens, try again!)

Bridgeland Yesterday and Today, starting at 4:14 pm on Saturday May 1 at the Starbucks @ 951 General Ave NE (Centre Ave NE @ 9 St NE), by CHI board member Halyn Skala Tataryn, P.Eng, MA (Architecture). Enjoy a visit to Bridgeland's newest and oldest landmarks as we see this changing neighbourhood combines yesterday and today.

Connaught People and Places, starting at 1 pm on Sunday May 2 at the Memorial Park Library. Connaught-Beltline is one of Calgary's most historic districts but with a modern urban twist. 13th Avenue runs through the area's history, and is ground zero for improvements like the Central Memorial Park renovation and the 13th Avenue Heritage Greenway. Join history professor Don Smith, City urban designer Afrah Rayes and CHI chiefs Cynthia Klaassen and Bob van Wegen for a tour from the Memorial Park Library to the Nellie McClung home and back to Lougheed House for a spot of tea. Along the way we will hear about big names in Calgary's past, we'll see some historic photographs, and we'll see some successes, failures, and opportunities in the urban landscape.
