CALGARY - Calgary, get ready to meet the new Ironwood. If all goes
according to schedule, Inglewood's Ironwood Stage and Grill -- which has been a staple venue for roots music since 2003 -- will be moving down the block on 9th Avenue S. E, reopening in the historic Garry Theatre by the end of this month... In addition to the larger space, the lure of moving into the landmark Garry Theatre was one that (Ironwood owner Patrick MacIntyre) found enticing...The Garry Theatre, which was built in 1931 as a cinema (sic - according to City inventory, built in 1936), became a popular theatre venue and the hub of Calgary's fringe festival in the 1990s. But in 2003, when the innovative Loose Moose Theatre was unable to pay the rent, the venue became a trendy furniture store -- something that never sat well with the arts community. That's something the owners of the Garry Theatre regretted, MacIntyre says, so they, too, were eager to turn the facility back into an arts-friendly venue...
