...The planned south block of the Bow project, which was to house office, retail and cultural space in about 200,000 square feet, was deferred due to the challenging economic times.
The south block would be a seven-storey complex to be built where the historic York Hotel formerly stood, using bricks taken from the demolished hotel.
"The current development plan with the City of Calgary calls for the start of construction of the south block at the time of occupancy of the north tower. Our plan is to meet those obligations. If this changes we will let Calgarians know," said Michael Brown, associate vice-president of Matthews Southwest, the developer of the Bow project.
Reardon said any proposals for the south block of the Bow project will rest with the owner and the developer.
"There really isn't anything developing on the south block at the moment that's sort of far enough along that we can even speculate as to what will eventually be there," he said.
Greg Kwong, regional managing director for Alberta for CB Richard Ellis Ltd., said he expects construction within the next couple of years to begin on the south block project.
"It's not the office space that's the lead (tenant) in this case. It's that cultural that they need to secure," he said.
