Plans are underway to preserve one of the few stately houses still standing in Victoria Park, a southeast neighbourhood that was once home to well-heeled Calgarians.

The Queen Anne-style house on 12th Avenue and Macleod Trail S.E. was a ritzy mansion when it was built in 1905 by clothing entrepreneur Enoch Samuel Sales.

But Enoch Sales house, as it became known, is now boarded up and in disrepair, said Dan Van Leeuwen, who owns the property.

He said the plan is to hoist the house and move it a few dozen meters west, closer to Macleod Trail. It would then be restored and transformed into a high-end restaurant, Van Leeuwen said.

Enoch Sales House Animation Projection

Postby LauraGrace » Mon Oct 31, 2011 4:52 pm

For those following the latest regarding Enoch Sales House, here is an event which may interest you:

On Friday, November 4 from 7:00 p.m. till midnight, check out Animated
City: the Enoch Sales House Projection! As part of a new urban animation
project called Animated City, GIRAF Animation Festival is projecting an
original Calgary-made animation on the side of Enoch Sales House!
Audiences are invited to come and view a locally-created work by Mohammad Sharar, and take note again of a beautiful heritage home, boarded-up in a parking lot outside the stampede grounds, but certainly not forgotten!

Aimed at literally and figuratively Animating the City, the Enoch House
projection will feature a film about the creation of all things, from cell
to city, projected on the corner of the building. Viewers can swing by
anytime on Friday, November 4th, between 7 pm and midnight. For more
information about GIRAF Animation Festival or other Animated City
projections, see www.giraffest.ca.

City of Calgary Parks has been working with stakeholders on a plan for a new park in Victoria Park, immediately west of the Enoch Sales house, that would hopefully include the relocated house. An open house is being planned to present preliminary concept drawings, and there will be online survey. We'll add more information as it becomes available.

Open house: April 23 at the Lotus Noodle House, corner of 11th Avenue and Macleod Trail SE, between 12-2pm and 4-6pm.

:!: More details at this link on the City website:

East Victoria Park - new park

The City of Calgary Parks is developing a new park in the community of East Victoria Park along Macleod Trail S.E. between 11th and 12th Avenues S.E., adjacent to the yellow Enoch Sales House that faces 12th Avenue S.E.

The site is located above the CTrain tunnel and is currently used as a parking lot. The City of Calgary sees this future park as a much needed neighbourhood park for Calgarians who live and work in the community. Parks has worked with stakeholder groups to develop a preliminary concept plan and is now engaging the public to receive feedback. Construction is expected to begin in the summer of 2013.

Public open house
Parks is hosting a drop in open house on Monday, April 23, 2012 to discuss the preliminary concept and to share ideas and information. Please join us!

What: Drop-in open house for new park in East Victoria Park
Date: Monday, April 23, 2012
Time: noon – 2 p.m. & 4 – 6 p.m.
Location: Lotus Noodle House, 1032 Macleod Trail S.E.

Annalise Klingbeil, Calgary Herald
Published: Wednesday, April 25, 2012
A small southeast parking lot is to become a new community park in a once-neglected neighbourhood that is desperate for green space... It has been proposed that the Enoch Sales house, one of the last remaining historic houses in Victoria Park, be incorporated into the redevelopment as a cafe...

Here are the latest Concept Plans for the new park in Victoria Park, with options with and without the Enoch Sales House. Also information from stakeholder consultation done in the spring. 94% of citizens responding to surveys online and at the open house supported including the historic Enoch Sales House on the site of the new park. Presently the house sits on the lot immediately to the east, which is expected to be redeveloped.

The final Design Development Plan for the New Park for East Victoria has been completed. Looks awesome with the Enoch Sales house prominent:
http://www.calgary.ca/CSPS/Parks/Pages/ ... -park.aspx

According to a parks planner, the next step for Parks is to secure a Development Liaison to begin construction in the summer of 2013. Parks continues to work with Law and Supply to have the adjacent Enoch Sales house moved onto the City property...
