Sen. Lougheed's Neighbourhood - Walking Tour August 22

Postby lougheedhouse » Mon Jun 07, 2010 9:28 am

Lougheed House and The Calgary Heritage Initiative present: Sen. Lougheed's Neighbourhood, a Connaught-Beltline Walking Tour on August 22, 2010.

The 90 minute tour will begin at 1pm at The Lougheed House located at 707 - 13 Ave SW and will tour the historic buildings in the Connaught-Beltline district. $8.50 adults, $6.50 Seniors and Students. (RSVPs appreciated - to Laurel Lepine at 403.244.6333 ext. 107). Includes admission to Lougheed House.

Beaulieu once sat nearly alone on the prairie, but now it sits in the centre of the vibrant and urban Connaught-Beltline district. The Lougheeds saw Calgary grow up around their house in the early 20th century - when it became a fashionable residential area for Calgary's business elite - and now the area is being transformed once again. Join members of the Calgary Heritage Initiative for a tour that puts the house in its neighbourhood context, with visits to such places as renewed Central Memorial Park, the Nellie McClung home, the Ranchman’s Club and much more. Along the way you’ll hear about some names in Calgary’s past, compare today's vistas with historic photographs, and learn about the past and future of one of Calgary's most interesting areas.
