St. Mary’s University College sits on historic land. This play shows Calgarians their history through a live theatrical site specific performance.
The “Midnapore Cycle” by Mieko Ouchi is set up like a Medieval Mystery Cycle which included townspeople and guilds in a community setting. St. Mary’s will do a variation of this with guilds such as dancers, hunters, missionaries, musicians, historians, nurses, firefighters etc. This work will create a legacy for Calgary, inspiring people to learn more about their local history, demonstrate how space can be animated creatively, and show the results of collaborations by different communities (Theatre, Fish Creek Provincial Park, the First Nations, Glenbow Museum, settlers’ families, Catholic and Anglican churches, Heritage Park, The Calgary Stampede, Parkland Music Festival and St. Mary’s University College)towards a common goal.
Finally, St. Paul’s Anglican Church is celebrating it’s 125th year and the Sisters of Providence are celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Father Lacombe Centre.
