Derailed Development: Calgary and the CPR 1962-64
Tuesday January 29, 7:30 pm at Fort Calgary, Burnswest Theatre. FREE.
Join historian and educator Max Foran for a lively talk based on his new book Development Derailed: Calgary and the CPR 1962-64. The story began with a proposed multimillion dollar development project on a piece of CPR reserve land in the heart of downtown Calgary. The plan was met with rapture by the political and business leaders of the day. The scope of the plan grew to include a proposal of rerouting or removing the railway tracks from the downtown area and reshaping much of Calgary's urban core. What could have derailed such a grand scheme?
