Monday July 30, 7:30 - 8:30 pm In The Lougheed Neighbourhood: Calgary's Great Modern Artist, Maxwell Bates.

Join art historian, Nancy Townshend, for a stimulating presentation on Calgary's foremost Modern artist, Maxwell Bates (1906 - 1980), who grew up at 732 13 Ave. S.W. and became one of Canada's most important artists. Nancy will highlight his art, architecture including St. Mary's Cathedral, his significant writings and his extraordinary life in Calgary, London, UK, a German salt mine during WWII, Calgary and Victoria.

Doors Open 7:00pm
Nancy’s books will be available for purchase- cash or cheque only


Tuesday July 31st 7:00- 8:30pm Lougheed House Garden Tour
Join Head Gardener Marie Gattinger for a walking tour of the historic gardens and learn about her inspirations for this year’s theme. Meet at the Garden shed located next to the 14th Avenue parking lot.

Ask the Archivist Open House
Drop in to chat with Archivist Cassandra Cummings about a range of topics including the House and family, Museum Studies, or working in the archives. Located in the Library.
