ANNOUNCEMENT:

CHINOOK COUNTRY HISTORICAL SOCIETY sponsors this free heritage talk & YWCA Celebration!

CREATING CORNERSTONES: A HISTORY OF THE YWCA OF CALGARY
CELEBRATING 100 YEARS!
FORT CALGARY Theatre TUESDAY, OCTOBER 25, 7:30 PM
PRESENTERS: Tonia Fanella & Pernille Jakobsen

The 'Old Y' building (12th Ave SW) is 100 years old! and this new book, describing the history of the YWCA in Calgary, is hot off the press!
Nancy Millar states:

"This book is so important. In many ways, the story it tells is so old fashioned you can hardly believe it. By the same token, it is so refreshing , so new. Those old girls tackled it all. They never doubted that they could make a better world. They knew they could and they did...."

An informative, lively account of our history. It follows the YWCA of Calgary through its foundation period, two world wars, numerous Calgary booms and busts, and all three waves of the women's movement. Complemented by numerous photographs and illustrations, it is designed to both inform and entertain. A valuable addition to history in Alberta.
