Organ crawl - March 13

Postby cjane » Tue Feb 08, 2011 6:37 pm

An Organ crawl is when a group of organists come together to explore various instruments around the community. In view of the upcoming centennial of the Casavant organ at St. John the Evangelist Church (1423, 8 ave. SE), the Calgary Society of Organists will be having an Organ Crawl, Sunday March 13 at 4 pm, hosted by Howard Janzen.

There will be a short demonstration of the many sounds of the organ and those who wish, may have an opportunity to play on it.

The event is open to members of St. John Church, The Calgary Society of Organists and the Royal Canadian College of Organists, and to all students and organ enthusiasts from around the city.

St. John Church, built 1905 is the oldest church in Calgary, used by the same congregation in the same building since its foundation.

An `organ crawl` is a tour of the inner mechanisms of a pipe organ, involving the exploration of parts of the organ not generally accessible to the public, including the pipes, chests, and blowers.
