On August 11, 2010, the Heritage Canada Foundation released its sixth annual list of the top ten endangered and lost architectural and heritage sites across the country. This annual list brings attention to the ongoing fight to maintain Canada's built heritage.

The Calgary Brewing and Malting Co. was chosen for this list since the demolition threat is still outstanding, and the property continues to deteriorate. http://www.heritagecanada.org/eng/featu ... PL2010.pdf

The latest Calgary Herald article has some updated news regarding the HRIA for the site. Simpson Roberts has been hired to complete it, and hopefully this will lead to some incentive for adaptive reuse of the site.

Old Inglewood brewery declared as ‘endangered’

Coming as a testament to mankind’s sentimental attachment to all things associated with that wonderful concoction of barley, hops, yeast and water otherwise known as beer, the uproar surrounding the proposed demolition of the historic Calgary Brewing and Malting Co. is beginning to gain momentum.

Even though it’s been 16 years since the Inglewood brewery produced its last pint, the four-acre cluster of buildings at the corner of Ninth Ave. and 15 St. SE was recently declared one of Canada’s 10 most endangered historical sites.
