Imagine taking a trolley to attend a four-level Methodist college in downtown Calgary. That Methodist college was just the beginning of what Mount Royal University has become today. In September, the institution will begin a 16-month celebration toasting the 100th year birthday of what is now called Mount Royal University (MRU). According to MRU’s website, on Dec. 16, 1910, the Alberta government granted a charter for what was then, a college. Reverend Dr. George Kerby became the first principal of the private Methodist institution. On Sept. 7, 1911, courses officially began. The old campus at the corner of 11th Street S.W. and 7th Avenue S.W. The four-level college used to be on the corner of 11th Street S.W. and Seventh Avenue S.W. Today, the university can be found at 4825 Mount Royal Gate S.W...
