CITYBEAT - CITY OF CALGARY PRESS RELEASE
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Shortly after 3am Sunday morning, fire crews responded to
reports of smoke coming from a single storey residential
dwelling at 630 - 12 Ave SE. Upon arrival fire crews were
faced with a fully involved house fire. A significant amount
of smoke and flame were showing upon arrival.

Although the building was boarded up and appeared unoccupied,
first arriving crews entered the structure to complete a full
search for any possible occupants. None were found.
Firefighters were forced to exit the building upon completion
of the search due to the significant heat and fire load.

Crews were able to control and extinguish the blaze from the
outside, and further, were successful at keeping it from
spreading to any nearby exposures (i.e. other buildings or
property).

The cause of this fire is unknown and is currently under
investigation. Arson has not been ruled out. The dollar
value of the loss has yet to be assessed.

Fire crews remained on scene through the early hours of
Sunday morning to ensure any remaining hot spots were closely
monitored and cooled as necessary.
