The Central Memorial Park – Conceptual Proposal for Redevelopment (2004) received a Mayor’s Urban Design Award (MUDA 2005) - Honourable Mention in the Civic Design category. Mayor Dave Bronconnier hosted the inaugural MUDA Gala Reception on October 18 with internationally renowned jurors, Allan Jacobs, Ken Greenberg and Kathleen Petty adjudicating the awards. The biennial awards acknowledge the vital role of urban design plays in maintaining and enhancing the quality of life in Calgary. Congratulations to Carson McCulloch Associates Ltd., lead consultant for the project team!
In addition, the City of Calgary Parks and Planning Departments are now officially moving forward with a Design Development Plan for Central Memorial Park, based on the 2004 Conceptual Proposal. A Request for Proposal will be distributed to the design community in the next few weeks, with a final plan presented to council in June 2006. The design development plan, engaging a wide stakeholder group, will take the project from the program stage through to design details, with approval of the plan and funding hopefully receiving Council approval simultaneously.
