One of Sam Steele's resideences is now the Tequila nightclub in the 100 block of 17th Avenue SW. According to the Glenbow, the house belonged to J. R. Costigan, and built in 1895. First located at 1st Street SW and 17th Avenue, then moved across the street and west a short distance (in 1928). At one time occupied by Colonel Samuel B. Steele, later owned by George Hope Johnston... Mover was Charles Riddock.

A biopic on the larger-than-life historic figure Sam Steele will be shot in Calgary, probably commencing in summer 2010. CBC and Alberta Culture and Community Spirit are participating.

His Calgary home is still extant - see above.

Well, looks like the Republik is re-opening at it's most long-standing former location, Sam Steele's former residence, the 1895 Costigan house at 217 - 17th Avenue SW, which was most recently Tequila. (Newsposter has many fond memories of the old Republik in the 80s and 90s, and a few gaps where fond memories were erased by triple gin and tonics on Thursday nights.)
