Proposed Hillhurst-Sunnyside ARP mixed news for heritage

Postby newsposter » Thu Aug 23, 2007 10:55 am

The proposed new Hillhurst-Sunnyside ARP includes density transfer provisions to promote heritage designation (similar to the Beltline ARP), and other language that encourages preservation, especially of buildings on the heritage inventory. However it also increases density in several areas, which will put greater redevelopment pressure on older buildings.
There are many buildings of historic interest in Hillhurst-Sunnyside that are not yet on the heritage inventory (on average, about 10-15 buildings a year are added to the inventory city-wide).

For information on the draft ARP, go to www.calgary.ca/todplanning and click on 'Hillhurst Sunnyside Project' on the left.
