Aug. 16, David Parker Calgary Herald:

...Executive director Blane Hogue has partnered with Witold Twardowski, designer restaurateur with lots of experience in transforming and running historic properties, who has put a lot of energy into restoring the dining areas and making better use of the kitchen of what has been known as Isabela's.

It has been re-named The Restaurant at Lougheed House and, although the grand re-opening is not scheduled until mid September, it is now open five days a week from Wednesday through Sunday.

Taking over the running of the restaurant was a natural for Twordowski, a man who left his mark on other historic establishments including Ambrosia, Divino, Cilantro, Teatro, Mescalero and the Ranche. He is currently the operator of the hugely successful Reader Rock Garden Cafe at the Reader Rock Garden Historic Site at 25th Avenue and Macleod Trail...

Government of Alberta news release

October 29, 2007

Province invests $190,000 to support Lougheed House operations
Historic facility joins network of provincially-owned historic sites and museums

Calgary... One of the city’s most historic landmarks is receiving additional support to continue sharing Calgary’s proud past with Albertans and visitors nationwide. The Alberta government is providing $190,000, with ongoing funding in future years, to the Lougheed House Conservation Society to assist the facility’s operations including administration, programs and marketing.

“This beautifully restored building and gardens represent a tribute to the province’s proud history,” said Premier Ed Stelmach. “Lougheed House connects Calgarians, Albertans and visitors to our province with that proud past, and gives us a glimpse into how Calgary became the great city it is today.”

Lougheed House will join the network of 19 provincially-owned historic sites and museums, which includes Head-Smashed-In-Buffalo Jump, the Royal Tyrrell Museum and Rutherford House. The site will also be included in the government’s annual marketing campaign for provincial historic facilities.

“Historic sites like Lougheed House keep our province’s rich past alive,” said Hector Goudreau, Minister of Tourism, Parks, Recreation and Culture. “Preserving and protecting our heritage plays a key role in remembering who we are as a province, and allows the next generation to help shape the future in building an even stronger Alberta.”

Built in 1891, Lougheed House was the original home to Senator James Alexander Lougheed and his family. Lougheed House is a Provincial Historic Resource and a National Historic Site, dedicated to commemorating and preserving Calgary’s early history. Lougheed House is owned by the province and operated in collaboration with the Lougheed House Conservation Society. Located on the edge of downtown Calgary, the house is open to the public.

Promoting our heritage is part of Premier Stelmach’s plan to secure Alberta’s future by building communities, greening our growth and creating opportunity.
