Calgary’s Heritage Buildings Top List of 100 Things We Love About Calgary
The feature article in the January issue of Avenue Magazine - “100 Things We Love About Calgary” - put Calgary’s Heritage Buildings at the top of the list!
6 specific Calgary historic sites also made the list:
Stephen Avenue
In 2005 Stephen Avenue was officially declared a National Historic District.
Memorial Park Library
This library opened in 1912 as Alberta’s first public library.
Lions on Centre Street Bridge
The four original lions were created by City employee James Thompson, a Scottish stone mason who came to Calgary in 1910
The Grand Theatre
This was Calgary’s original vaudeville theatre and hosted artists including Sara Bernhart, Fred Astaire and the Marx Brothers.
Reader Rock Garden
This impressive garden was created by Calgary’s Park Superintendent, William Reader between 1913 and 1942.
Douglas Fir Trail (Edworthy Park)
These trees are over 400 years old and are the easternmost stand of Douglas firs in Canada.
