Hy's Steakhouse to close after 50 years

After 50 years, the first Hy's Steakhouse, a Calgary institution - is closing on December 31. Hy's was originally in another Calgary building, reportedly on 9th Avenue (does anyone know the story?), but moved to its current location in the early 1960s or so.

Hy's and Japanese Village (closing December 20) are making way for a new skyscraper, Jamieson Place by Bentall. The tower is to be named for Calgarian, Alice Jukes Jameison, who in 1913 became the first female judge in the British Empire. See below for photos and links:
