Calgary is learning to be more careful of its history...

Until fairly recently, we've exhibited youth's disregard for things wearing the patina of age. As a result, we have few remaining buildings that tell our short history. Four old city homes, still standing and dating back a century, have evolved into restaurants, and serve lunches that honour, each in its own way, what Calgary was 100 years ago.

Summer afternoons, spent eating together in these lovely old spaces, are like pearls, lit by the burnt amber glow of the sun on prairie apple trees. In such moments, time is a necklace that connects us to past and future, reminding us that what we take with us are memories and love...
