Congratulations to Don Smith for winning the 2006 Alberta Book Award for best Scholarly Book for "Calgary’s Grand Story". This is a great book about the history of Calgary as seen from the vantage point of the Lougheed Building and Grand Theatre. Don was instrumental in researching and popularizing the Grand-Lougheed when it was endangered a few years ago. The theatre is now the home of Theatre Junction and the Velvet Restaurant and the office building is being restored by heritage developer Neil Richardson.

 Free Guided half-hour tours of the re-opened Grand Theatre are offered by Theatre Junction on "First Thursdays". On July 6 there will be tours at 12:15pm, 5:15pm, 6:15pm. 608-1st St SW. www.firstthursdays.ca
