Calgary - The Centre Street Bridge will be dedicated as a
National Historic Civil Engineering Site as part of the
Canadian Society for Civil Engineering Conference “Towards a
Sustainable Future” underway in at the Hyatt Hotel May 24
through 26, 2006. Mayor Dave Bronconnier is scheduled to
speak at the Opening Ceremonies May 24, 2006 at 8:30 a.m.
(Imperial Ballroom -Hyatt Calgary)
Historical Commemoration:
A tribute to the engineers and constructors who created this
important addition to the transportation infrastructure of
Calgary and Canada. The project, Calgary's first reinforced
concrete open-spandrel arch bridge, represents an engineering
state-of-the-art of its time.

The 2006 conference sees Calgary hosting over 300
professional engineers from across Canada, the US, Mexico,
and over 20 other countries. It is an annual gathering for
the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE) that is
held at a different Canadian city each year. Keynote speakers
for the General Conference as well as three specialty
conferences: 1st International Structural Specialty
Conference, 1st International Construction Specialty
Conference, and the 1st Specialty Conference on Disaster
Mitigation will speak per the attached program. Approximately
300 technical papers will be presented throughout the
conference.
There will also be a trade show presenting industry
technologies and products by various national corporations.
