To all Centre City Stakeholders

Centre City Plan process has a new Project Manager!

For all those who've been participating in the public and stakeholder dialogue on the future of the Centre City, our Centre City Plan process has reached a key milestone. We've completed a compilation of the public input we received from the wide variety of idea-sharing opportunities throughout the second half of last year. These are available for downloading from our webpage, http://www.calgary.ca/centrecity, under "Centre City Plan Engagement Process". There is both an 18 page summary, and a 100+ page complete document for those who like to read more! I encourage you to take a look… as you can imagine, it was a challenge to compile so many different thoughts and ideas!

We've been using that input to develop a structure for the Centre City Plan, and delve into the writing process. As that writing is underway, it's a good juncture, given the pressing needs of our Centre City Planning and Design Division in general, to make an important change in leadership. So effective last week, I've transitioned the project management responsibilities for the Centre City Plan from myself, to a new project manager, Thom Mahler. A Senior Planner in our division, Thom has been the project manager for the new Beltline Area Redevelopment Plan (which is at Planning Commission this Thursday, and hopefully Council in May) for the last year or so, and has done an exceptional job! He's been a key member of the Centre City Plan team as well, so will be hitting the ground running as its new leader. This change allows me to re-assume fully the division manager role effective last week. From this role, I'll still have strategic involvement in the Plan, as its development remains the number one priority of our division in the coming months.

Thom and his team will be working to complete a draft of the Plan for circulation and discussion in the coming months…stay tuned for updates on new target dates. I have complete faith in Thom, and I'd like to personally thank him for the enthusiasm with which he's taking this new role on. It gives me the complete comfort to refocus all my efforts on the managers role. Congratulations Thom, and thanks again!

I'd also like to extend a big thanks to Rob Graham for the energy he's put into keeping things in shape as acting division manager over the last few months. It's very much appreciated!

Stay tuned for further updates in the coming weeks, and as always, thank you for all the energies you continue to put into making the Centre City better!
