A charity concert to support the church renovations

Postby Architect » Mon Oct 10, 2011 8:54 pm

Dear Friends!
In July 2011, began a CHARITABLE MOVEMENT to fund a major renovation of a new home for the Russian Orthodox Church of St. John Chrysostom.
A non-profit organization CALGARY HOPE SOCIETY, with the help of organizations such as CALGARY ENTERTAINMENT and STONECREEK MEDIA, began the preparations for a charity concert to help the St. John Chrysostom church.

I was doing a little online research into St Patrick's history and current situation, and found this Facebook album of recent work (Fall 2011) done on the church:

MCES (Midnapore Church of England Society) hosted a public meeting Saturday Feburary 11th, 2006 at the the Anglican Church hall that sits between the two heritage churches - St. Pat's and its neighbour, the historic Midnapore Church of England.

It was well attended by 50-60 individuals. I met descendants of the pioneers, Catholic St. Patrick's parish members, St. Paul's Anglican parish members, Calgary Civic Trust members, representatives of Memorial Gardens, the present owner of the site, a representative of the Bishop and many other interested Calgarians.

Reading this, as well as the article posted here, I'm curious about the former St. Martin's church/ parrish hall that sat between the two buildings. There seems to be so little information about it, and I can't recall it. This article mentions it briefly as well, but despite scouring many pictures of the site, I can't find a decent one of St. Martin's (most photos seem to be pre-1960, or post-2006). I believe it may be the building located above the 2 in the following photo of Midnapore from the 1978 Revised Midnapore Policy Report (1 is St Paul's, 3 is St. Patrick's).

Does anyone have a decent picture of this building? Or any further information on why or when it was demolished?
