The Beltline house that had a second-story fire on August 8 2011 (stories below) was not on the heritage inventory, but the 1910 house has a history, as does its 1911 neighbour to the east. Researched first by the Beltline Heritage Group and supplemented by CHI, we dubbed it the Bulshin-Belzberg residence after its longtime and most notable occupants. The house to the east, which was not damaged in the fire, we dubbed the Samuel P. Blair residence after its longtime occupant. See the information about these houses and those who lived in them at the link (the house that had the fire was blue in these 2005/06 photos, more recently painted brown): http://www.calgaryheritage.org/CHIForum/vi ... ?p=235#235
Back in 2006, a re-zoning was approved for this area in anticipation of a two-tower development that has not happened. CHI commented to City Council with ideas for preserving the houses on the site. Here is a link to that info: http://www.calgaryheritage.org/CHIForum/vi ... .php?t=145
Here's hoping the house is repaired an not torn down!
