Abandoned Store front & homes on 17th Ave. to be demolis

Hello all, I saw on Global news that the city is cracking down on abandoned and unsightly properties. There was a article on there, and there was some older style abandoned homes and a brown storefront on 17th Ave both boarded up. Dose anyone have info or history/photos of this store/block?? Is it anything of interest? It dose look pretty original..

The home in the photo on the article didn't look too bad from the exterior. I would think that the owner would put a little money into renovating it and sell it rather than tearing it down. I do think boarded up houses are unsightly but I also think it's important to preserve any historical buildings or homes before considering demolishing them. If they are demolished, I think they should create green spaces for the local residents to spend time in and play. I think that would increase the value of the homes around it.

Most times when a place is bulldozed it remains an empty lot that just collects garbage and weeds.. so it kind of defeats purpose of trying to clean up the area. Totally agree.. for older buildings a historical impact assessment should be done before the go a head is given. They should also have to recycle 90% of all the material from the demo..give the lumber etc. to salvage yards and such.. but a green space would be very ideal..
