Charting a course for change
The city's second-oldest restaurant tries a few new things to celebrate 60 years.

A short time ago, a reader wrote to ask me what the oldest restaurant in town is. As far as I know, the answer is the Rimrock in the Fairmont Palliser Hotel. There's been a food-service outlet there in one form or another since the hotel opened in 1914. The more difficult question is: what's the second oldest? I may have the answer. Unless anyone is aware of a restaurant that's been serving food more or less continuously since before 1950, I think the secondoldest place is the Dairy Lane Cafe at 319 19th St. N.W. (403-283-2497). A few weeks ago, it celebrated its diamond anniversary, and it's still going strong...

If a restaurant reaches many years in its operation, it only tells us how good this restaurant is. It is really hard to remain firm and standing in these times of crisis because we do not know how we can surpass it. The restaurant must be given an award in the service.
