Calgary's second oldest restaurant

My parents were friends of the original owners, Pete and Edie Frewin, and we visited often in the old days before the re-making. Lots of great memories. I have an article somewhere about Pete and Edie, when I find it I'll post it... n.p.

A short time ago, a reader wrote to ask me what the oldest restaurant in town is. As far as I know, the answer is the Rimrock in the Fairmont Palliser Hotel. There's been a food-service outlet there in one form or another since the hotel opened in 1914. The more difficult question is: what's the second oldest? I may have the answer. Unless anyone is aware of a restaurant that's been serving food more or less continuously since before 1950, I think the secondoldest place is the Dairy Lane Cafe at 319 19th St. N.W. (403-283-2497). A few weeks ago, it celebrated its diamond anniversary, and it's still going strong...
